High quality fashion and hairstyle guides? As is his tradition, Simon Porte Jacquemus showed away from the usual fashion-week schedule, this time choosing to take the fashion pack (which included Victoria Beckham) to the salt mountains of the Camargue Park in Arles, Provence to check out his new collection. Entitled ‘Le Papier’, every piece was in white or cream, while linen dominated the collection, helping it to blend perfectly into the breathtaking setting. This week, Marc Jacobs returned to the New York Public Library to present his autumn/winter 2022 collection, choosing again to show away from the official NYFW schedule. The designer recruited supermodel sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid to walk in the show, where they strutted their stuff in enormous platforms, elbow-length gloves, layered knitwear and duvet dresses. The collection was inspired by a quote from German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche: We have art in order not to die of the truth. Find extra information at fashion.
Valentino landed the number two spot, after not ranking last season. What that tells us: There must be power in pink. Pierpaolo Piccioli’s exclusive use of eye-popping hot pink and black divided reviewers, but not Vogue Runway’s readers. Also: There’s definitely power in celebrity. A Zendaya sighting never hurts and the superstar made her only appearance of the season at Piccioli’s show. His Paris venue had screaming fans by the thousands outside to greet her, a site and sound reproduced over and over again this season, with Kim Kardashian turning up at Prada and Balenciaga, Julia Fox at Versace, and the resplendently pregnant Rihanna at Gucci, Off-White, and Christian Dior. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dior collection was our number-one most-viewed show of the season. She also had Blackpink’s Jisoo in the front row.
A textured updo feels romantic and effortless so your accessories should capture this vibe. Find small pins that you can scatter to the side of your updo, or a medium sized comb which can sit in the middle to frame your wedding veil. Depending on the size of your bun and your face shape, exaggerated earrings will balance out your look and will bring attention to the front and sides. It would be a shame to cover up beautiful braids and twists so pair this look with a sheer minimalist veil or position it just above the bun (rather than the crown of your head). Avoid veils with extra wide combs (i.e. wider than 3-3.5 inches) as larger veil combs will look too bulky. Veils attached to smaller combs from 1.5 inches to 3 inches will create a more contemporary finish.
On the other end of the colour spectrum and sitting in a far quieter zone is a rise in interesting, ultra-luxe but ultimately very wearable wardrobe staples. This doesn’t translate as boring, and I’m not talking about basic tees that cost a fortune, more low-key staples with interesting twists: a trench coat with a unique label, a co-ord set with quirky buttons, a pair of tailored trousers in a more unusual silky-satin finish.
Next season sees a new way to do metallic spangle without the need for sequins – which are often very damaging to the environment. Instead, may we encourage you to get your shine via liquid metal sheens; a far subtler, more grown-up and contemporary take on shimmer. Predominantly – but not exclusively – found in golds and silvers, these sheeny dreams create a molten metal feel as luxurious, shimmering fabric appears to be falling around your body. Pleated skirts may be midi for next season, but all others are raising the hemlines to minuscule lengths. These are minis that the supermodels of the ’90s would’ve been proud to wear, with well over half of the thigh exposed beneath the brief slip of fabric. Opt for super-statement shades, prints or fabrics to ensure that while the skirt may be small it still packs a real punch. As if we needed any more confirmation that the Nineties are the current decade of inspiration, Virginie Viard paid tribute to Karl Lagerfeld’s supermodel-studded catwalks of the decade with a show that recreated the traditional runway setting, complete with photographers leaning onto the catwalk. The collection – which was filled with Nineties swimwear and Clueless-inspired skirt suits – was an ode to the creative director who came before her. Because fashion is about clothes, models and photographers, Viard said. Karl Lagerfeld used to photograph the Chanel campaigns himself. Today, I call upon photographers. I love the way that they see Chanel. It supports and inspires me.
Jen Atkin, hairstylist and founder of Ouai Haircare, is loving textured lobs this season. She says clients like Hailey Baldwin Bieber are asking for short, shaggy cuts. “Tell your stylist you want a lot of movement and texture, especially toward the ends and in the fringe,” she explains. To get the ’70s shaggy look, she uses Ouai Wave Spray and lets the hair “do its thing.” She tames flyaways and adds moisture with Ouai Finishing Creme. See additional info on DIY home tips.
